Baby Alligator Warping Tug
MSRP: $89.95 (Catalog No. O-104) The Baby Alligator proved popular with operations not requiring the capability of the standard size warping tugs. The wheel house was just large enough for the captain and with no above deck sleeping arrangements or cooking facilities. These smaller wood or coal fired tugs were an upgrade from an earlier paddlewheel design, and were built by West & Peachey (Simcoe, Ontario) from 1919 till 1923 for various wood and lumber companies in Nova Scotia, Ontario, and Quebec.
The Baby Alligators were fully amphibious work vessels. They were fitted with two large oak hull skids and would portage themselves overland using their own steam powered winch and cable.
This kit is part of a fund raising project to support the W.D. Stalker, the last remaining operational West & Peachey Alligator Warping Tug.
Instructions are full color and provided on a CD-ROM.
Measurements:
Length: 9.5 inches (24 cm)
Width: 2 1/8 inches (5.4 cm)
Height: 3 1/8 inches (8 cm)

Merchants Despatch, Its History and Equipment by Roger C. Hinman
MSRP: $65 (Catalog No. MDT) Merchants Despatch traced its origins to a railroad express service begun in 1855, with a connection to the American Express Company. From its earliest years it operated over the lines of the New York Central, and by 1871 its stock was owned by Vanderbilt Lines railroads. However, it was an independent part of the New York Central family. As such, it outlived the Central, and this book carries its history to the year 2000. Some 298 photographs, most previously unpublished, enrich this book, in addition to 44 drawings. More than 50 period documents and graphics enliven the text, accompanied by extensive rosters and tables of both car data and company information. Thoroughly researched in company records, this is an authoritative, well illustrated and complete history of Merchants Despatch. It presents both the long and complex corporate history, and also much information and many details about the design, construction, maintenance and operation of the vast car fleet. The book will appeal to those interested in the New York Central and in freight cars, as well as to enthusiasts of railroad history.

Rails Around Lake Tahoe by Mallory Hope Ferrell
MSRP: $60.00 (Catalog No. RT) Lake Tahoe itself is nestled amid the towering pine-covered mountains along the California and Nevada state lines. Its waters provided transportation for not only the timber, but for passengers, mail and freight aboard the many steamboats that plied its blue waters. In this beautiful setting, logging railroads and steamboats of the Carson & Tahoe Lumber & Fluming Company brought the huge logs to lakeshore sawmills. In the early 1900s, tourists began to flock to Lake Tahoe. They rode on a new narrow gauge, the Lake Tahoe Railway & Transportation Company. Eventually the Southern Pacific took over the property and converted it to standard gauge. The SP branch was abandoned in 1941. This is the story of the many logging railroads that operated in and near the Tahoe basin, with hundreds of rare photographs, maps, plans and illustrations. The author, a distinguished historian of narrow-gauge railroading and the West, has with this book added further luster to a long record of fine publications. The book will certainly appeal to anyone interested in narrow-gauge and logging railroading, as well as to enthusiasts of railroad history in general.
